Thousands of agents crawl across a dish. Each one can do only two things: smell the chemical trail just ahead of it and slightly to each side, steer toward whichever is strongest, then drop a little trail of its own. The trail spreads and fades. No agent has a map, a memory, or a single neighbor it talks to — the only thing they share is the dish itself. From that, and nothing else, the swarm weaves a living network of veins and keeps re-routing it, thickening the busy paths and letting the idle ones dissolve — the same way real slime mold rebuilds the map between sources of food. Drop food and watch the veins reach for it.
